Cogeneration with Straw
The objective of this new technology is to add to bagasse a larger quantity of leaves from the sugarcane provided by the mechanical cutting of cane (without burning). The increase in capacity of steam production in the high pressure boilers provides higher yield of electric energy through biomass. A larger stock of bagasse with trash allows cogeneration during the offseason, as well.
Currently, in the unit at Promissao, SP, there is a system of cleaning and drying installed, consisting of fans, conveyors, a sieve, and a chopper, with a processing capacity of 130,000 tons of trash per season, which increases the cogeneration by up to 16%.
